Giving Back by Building Homes

Building a Home For One Of Our Own

We have a passion for helping hard-working people deal with life’s uncertainties. That’s our mission statement. And to truly carry out that mission, we need to turn our attention to the people who work hard for our customers, too. When we learned that our Intake Specialist Demetrice Sneed had been working with Habitat for Humanity of Rutherford County to finance and build a home, we knew our mission and hers were in alignment.

Demetrice dreamed of having a safe place for her son to study and play while working hard to provide for them both. Once she secured a steady job with Acceptance Insurance she was able to start the Habitat for Humanity process, which requires participants to contribute over 350 hours of labor and learning to earn the low-interest mortgage on her Habitat House.

“Demetrice exemplifies the kind of qualities we look for in our employees and the values that this company strives toward every day: integrity, hard work, passion and selflessness,” said Douglas Jensen, Senior Vice President, Chief Claims Officer of Acceptance Insurance. “We made a promise to serve this community, and I can’t think of a better way to help fulfill that promise than to help one of our own make her dream come true.”

Demetrice could not be happier to have the help of her team members and her company in building her future home.

“This will be the first home I’ve purchased, so it’s been an educational process for me. As soon as I learned that Acceptance Insurance played a part in supporting me, all I could do was add it to the list of things I had to praise God for,” said Demetrice. “I’ve never worked for a company that was willing to support their employees off the clock, especially like this. My family and I are very grateful, and I am proud to say that I work for such a supportive, caring company.”

Acceptance Insurance has so far held two team-building days on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, where employees helped with the build.

This is just the beginning of our reinvigorated investment in the communities we serve. Our other recent initiatives include donating $25,000 to Metro Nashville Public Schools to enable distance learning for all and adding $25,000 to the award fund for the Heisman High School Scholarship, of which we are the presenting sponsor.
